Transformation

Genetically altering the genome of a cell by integrating a foreign DNA fragment

Transformation is an important part of genetic engineering. This is how engineered genes are introduced into target recipients to yield transgenic cells.

Various methods are available for transforming plant cells. Transgenic plants are most commonly generated by the biolistic method (particle gun) or by Agrobacterium tumefaciens mediated transformation.
